OVERVIEW
Mahindra Powerol, a trusted name in Indian Genset Engine Industry, is a preferred choice of major manufacturing companies worldwide. The company truly values its customers, employees, and associates, taking into account the requirements of all stakeholders and ensuring their best performance.
The manufacturing and assembly facilities of Mahindra Powerol set within the industrial area of Nagpur (Maharashtra) have been providing standard quality products & services to their clientele. The idea was to increase production to serve more clientele promptly.
CHALLENGE
The Systematic Operating Procedures (SOPs) followed at each stage of the manufacturing/assembly process are well-documented by the company. The main challenge here is that the references are on paper; getting the information while the process is ongoing becomes cumbersome & time-consuming. It affects the stages that follow.
The technical teams observed that the resources invested in training (newcomers or the advanced training of the existing ones) and referring paperwork could be optimised better. The planned use of digital learning methods was decided to be adopted for training & reference purposes.
- Audio-Visual SOPs
Manufacturing & Assembly
OPPORTUNITY
The objective of the project was to create Audio-Visual (AV) SOPs, and the AVs be displayed on the screens installed near each stage of the assembly line. The purpose of the AV SOPs is to be used as (self-learning & classroom) training materials and need-based reference materials. The requirement also included creating audio transcripts in local/national languages for a better learning experience for the local population.
APPROACH
Our tech team studied the working of the company and the stage-wise manufacturing/assembly process to understand the existing SOPs better and convert them in the required digital format. The brainstorming sessions with motion graphics & technical content teams helped create a plan to optimise every resource and get the best quality result. The project was programmed in phases; each team was involved at every stage for clarity and systematic working of the whole process.
CONNECTING THE DOTS
The work of every team was compiled into the expected format. Before submission to the client team, the modules were evaluated for quality as per industrial standard. After the review from the client-side, the modules were divided into parts as per specific stage requirements.
ENDNOTES
The project is an ongoing endeavour where each year, the Mahindra Powerol team designs & customises engines as per their client requirements and the new engines are worked upon at the assembly line. The project is a fulfilling experience as the learning curve keeps growing.
